Oneida Bingo & Casino Oneida Bingo and Casino, located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is a 24-hour facility operated by the Oneida Nation.
History of the Oneida
The Oneida people lived on millions of acres of what is now New York State at the time of European contact. After the American Revolution, however, these lands were lost, and in the 19th century, the Oneida negotiated the purchase of five million acres in what is now Wisconsin for joint use with the Menominees and Winnebagos.
Subsequent 19th century laws and treaties chipped away at these lands, so that by the 1920s, the tribal lands contained just a few hundred acres. In the 1930s, the tribe began buying back some of its former land, and in 1985, a Supreme Court ruling restored a 250,000 acre land claim in central New York to all the Oneida people. With revenue from its gaming facility, the Oneida have been able to reacquire about a quarter of the original reservation land.
Gaming Complex
The Oneida gaming complex has nearly 3,000 reel slot and video machines, including nickel, 25-cent, 50-cent, dollar and five dollar reel slot, video poker, video blackjack and video keno machines.
Slot games such as "Megabucks," "Quartermania" and "Nickelmania" pay out thousands of dollars in jackpots. Other slot game machines include "Elvis," "Wheel of Fortune" and "Money Time" that allow winners to bring home prizes such as cars, boats and motorcycles.
Oneida has a wide variety of blackjack tables; limits on these tables from $3 to $200. Staff members are on hand to help those who are not sure how to play.
The 850-seat Irene Moore Activity Center is the facility's venue for bingo. There is a smoke free area during each bingo session. Jackpots get bigger and bigger as the day progresses. Bingo games include "Black Out," "Outline Diamond," "Do-It-Yourself Bingo," and "Tic Tac Toe."
The facility has three restaurants and snack bars which offer a variety of food and beverages. The Gathering has a cafeteria type menu; Three Sisters offers an impressive, chef-prepared daily buffet; the Shenandoah features an elegant dining experience. Finally, the Blackjack Snack Shop and The Coffee Cup offer something for those who just want a quick bite. |
